UDIT Celebrates a Decade of Design Excellence with a Landmark Transition from IIAD
Article
The University of Design, Innovation & Technology (UDIT) recently marked a defining milestone in its journey with ‘The Transition‘—a celebratory evening commemorating its evolution from the Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD) into a multidisciplinary university. Held at Bikaner House, New Delhi, the event brought together distinguished leaders from the worlds of design, education, business, art and culture to celebrate a decade of design-led learning while looking ahead to the future of interdisciplinary education.
The evening served as more than a celebration of a new name. It reflected the university’s continued commitment to creator-centred education, built on IIAD’s decade-long legacy of studio-based learning, industry collaboration and project-led practice. Through live performances, cultural experiences and conversations with eminent guests, the event honoured the institution’s past while introducing its expanded vision—one that integrates design, technology and management within a single collaborative academic framework.
Among the distinguished guests were Amitabh Kant, former G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog; Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India; celebrated artist Jatin Das; Padma Bhushan awardee Shovana Narayan; cultural ambassador Sharon Lowen; along with several prominent leaders from the creative, academic and business communities. Their presence underscored the growing relevance of interdisciplinary education in shaping the next generation of creators and innovators.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jitin Chadha, Pro-Chancellor of UDIT, described the transition as the natural evolution of a decade spent redefining design education in India. Today, UDIT extends that philosophy across its three integrated schools—Design, Management and Technology—creating opportunities for students to think across disciplines and solve complex real-world challenges through collaboration and making.
The event reaffirmed UDIT’s vision of preparing creators rather than conventional professionals—individuals who combine creative thinking, technological understanding and business insight to build meaningful solutions for an evolving world.
